Enyi Kanu

Enyi Kanu is a speaker, thought leader, author and entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. He helps people preserve and transfer wealth, build wealth, manage taxes and receive lifetime income using traditional and Alternative Strategies. He has been featured by numerous professional organizations and the media, including Fortune1, Forbes 2, Bloomberg Businessweek3 and Money 4 magazines. As an author and speaker, he has delivered numerous presentations on sound income, investment, tax planning and risk management strategies.

He received an Oppenheimer award for “Achieving the highest level of professional excellence in an ever-changing economic environment.” He is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of kANU Asset Management, LLC., a Cincinnati-based Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm. He was Senior Vice President and Certified Portfolio Manager at Wachovia Securities. Before Wachovia, he was Vice President, Investments at Dean Witter Reynolds (now Morgan Stanley), which he joined in 1988. Enyi has extensive work experience in business, finance, planning, and management. He received an MBA in Finance from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Benin, Nigeria. He has FINRA Series 3, 7, 9, 10, 63 and 65 licenses, Amex Put and Call Securities Professional and licenses. Enyi is an investment professional with certifications in “Investment Policy & Asset Allocation,” “Manager Search & Selection” and “Performance Measurement & Evaluation.” He was also a member of Wachovia Securities “Chairman’s Circle of Excellence.”

Enyi’s investment consulting discipline derives from Modern Portfolio Theory that he has developed into “The kANU Modern Portfolio Theory Plus”, which incorporates traditional and non-traditional asset classes, proper diversification, asset allocation, asset location, and risk balancers in the client’s investment policy. Enyi believes this complement is critical to optimal investment portfolio performance, risk management, and the accomplishment of the client’s objectives. He has also worked with various institutions advising on financial matters. He is a member of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber CEO Round Table and has served on numerous boards, including The Ohio Parents for Drug Free Youth, the American Red Cross, 4C for Children and the International Association of The Greater Cincinnati Area.

Dorien Nunez

Director of Research OmniResearch Group

Dorien Nunez is a Speaker, Author, Researcher, Consultant and Principal and Co-Founder of The OMNIResearch Group. OMNI is a Research and Consulting practice focusing on Institutional Investments, Research and Emerging Manager Development (Small, Women and Minority Business Enterprises).

He has been a Service Delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business under President Bill Clinton, a Consultant to the U.S. Commission on Minority Business Development under President George H.W. Bush, where he is credited with introducing the concept of “Historically Underutilized Businesses” (HUB’s) and “HUB Zones”. He has served as an Advisor to various Governors, State Treasurers, Mayors, City Councils and public officials nationally.

Nunez created and taught a course on ‘Black Entrepreneurship’ in addition to teaching ‘Entrepreneurship’ and ‘Investments’ as Adjunct Professor at various universities.

In the 1980s he launched a series of annual events called SEBOC (Small and Emerging Business Owners Conference) bringing together venture capitalists, government procurement executives, corporate buyers, Small businesses, MBEs and WBEs. Literally thousands of attendees and millions of dollars in revenues were connected as a result of his events and activities. His efforts led to the establishment of venture capital funds and microloan funds with a focus on Women and Minority Business Owners leading to his being named “Entrepreneur of the Year” by his local Hispanic Chamber. He has raised capital for his own and other companies and ventures.

Nunez co-founded the National Foundation of Entrepreneurships’ (NFTE) first Ohio chapter and later attended the Babson College program for teaching entrepreneurship as a guest of NFTE and the Kauffman Foundation.

A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School, Nunez has always believed that knowledge is powerful and education is of the utmost importance. As a lifelong champion of education, he co-founded The Alabama-Mississippi Education Improvement Project with two of his two mentors, Frank and Faye Clarke (the organization later became Educate The Children (ETC), a non-profit that served school children in poor school districts in the U.S., the Caribbean and Africa).

ETC’s projects ranged from installing computer labs with the computers and equipment, music labs and musical instruments, books, textbooks, supplies to creating programs and providing trainers. ETC received a Presidents Points of Light Foundation award and was responsible for over $20 MM in donations of school supplies to teachers and students, and dozens of other recognitions.

Nunez received his CFA in 1986. He has been an Adjunct Professor at four universities teaching courses in both Business and Finance. He co-created the Curriculum and Training Program for Leaders and Trustees for the AFL-CIO’s oldest and largest constituency group, the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI); he co-created and conducts various investment manager and trustee education programs including “Finding Alpha in the Delta”; the OMNI Buttonwood Series in New York held at venues including the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, etc.; in addition to various Roundtables through-out the year.

Nunez participates in and advises various industry organizations including the P&I Research Advisory Panel, the Public Funds Advisory Board and state pension groups. He has extensive experience as a moderator, speaker and conference chairperson for Investment, Research and Educational events in the investment industry.

He is a Board Member of the Harvard Club of Louisiana in addition to also being the “HBS Liaison” to the Club. He was previously a Board Member of the Washington, DC and New York Harvard and HBS Clubs.

Nunez received his MBA from Harvard Business School, his BA from Harvard College and is a graduate of St. Paul School in New Hampshire and a proud alumnus of the public-school systems of New York City.

DARREN SUGIYAMA

Darren Sugiyama was born and raised in Long Beach, California and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Loyola Marymount University where he was also the team captain and 2nd Team All-Conference baseball player. He continued his education and earned a Master’s Degree in Multicultural Education from the University Of Hawaii at Manoa.
After starting his career as a counselor in a gang prevention program in his
home town of Long Beach, California, worked as a teacher in the public school
system in Honolulu, Hawaii, and as a counselor in Halawa Prison and the
Honolulu Detention Home

Darren Sugiyama decided to follow his entrepreneurial dreams and started his own employee benefits firm in 2003 called Apex. During his first year in the insurance business, his personal income for the year was only $277 (he proudly displays his personal tax return on the wall of his office). But just seven years later, Apex was producing over $37 million in annual sales and was the #1 producing firm in the country for three different insurance carriers concurrently.

Since then, Darren expanded his insurance business portfolio, building a life insurance agency called DaVinci, which was responsible for 25% of all the life insurance policies sold for Pacific Life in Orange County, California in 2017. In
2018, DaVinci was responsible for 29% of the all the life insurance policies sold for Penn Mutual in Orange County, and in 2019, over 38%. In addition, Darren founded Lionsmark Capital in 2016 which is now one of the most dominant premium financing intermediary firms in the life insurance industry, and has built a reputation of being the most mathematically transparent firm in the business with proprietary backtesting software that analyzes 121 different 40-year historical periods of S&P 500 performance.

Darren is also an internationally acclaimed 9-time author with published works being distributed in Australia, Brasil, Canada, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, India, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, the mUnited Kingdom, and the United States of America.
